Functional Training

EA FITNESS services individuals in their golden years starting as young as 65 years of age. EA FITNESS provides individuals with an individualized exercise program tailored to meet their personal goals along with their physicians’ recommendations. Typically these sessions incorporate methods to:

How do I get started?

EA FITNESS realizes that the hardest part of any process is getting started. We make getting started easy and convenient. We conduct a fitness evaluation that determines the individual’s current fitness level in the following (6) areas: cognitive awareness, total body strength, overall range of motion, physical impairments/limitations, exercise knowledge, and personal preferences. The fitness evaluation is designed to establish a baseline current fitness level and provides necessary information to develop an individual’s specific functional fitness program.

What do Functional Training sessions include?

All sessions are based on the EA FITNESS customized exercises for the individual client. On the spot exercise modification to accommodate the individual’s daily ability levels, as this varies from day to day with some individuals. Appropriate rest periods and continuous evaluation of cognitive awareness and physical capabilities. Sessions will always include adequate stretching to reduce soreness and improve flexibility. Last and most important is constant positive reinforcement of all efforts made by the client.

What are the Training service options?

Packages are based off of either two or three sessions per week in either half hour or hour intervals. This equates to 8, 16, or 24 sessions with the two sessions per week model. Accordingly when there are three sessions per week this equates to 12, 24, or 36 sessions. Pricing is based on a sliding scale which reduces the cost per session when more are purchased. The initial fitness evaluation usually determines if the individual will be better served by undergoing half hour or hour sessions.

Where are Functional Training sessions conducted?

Sessions are conducted in the privacy of the individual’s home, wherever home is including but not limited to assisted and independent living facilities. We typically travel up to 30 miles from our central radius of Riverview Florida. Exceptions are occasionally made and are subject to scheduling availability and additional fees.

What type of feedback is available for clients and/or their caregiver/LAR?

EA FITNESS is capable of providing weekly, quarterly, or as requested documentation of the client’s current status. These documents can be provided to family members, doctors, spouses, or any other individual that may have use for this information.

How do I get started?

We conduct a fitness evaluation that determines the individuals current fitness level in the following (6) areas: body composition (estimates the percentage of body weight that is fat weight and lean weight), total body strength, overall flexibility, physical impairments/limitations, exercise knowledge and personal preferences. The fitness evaluation is designed to establish a baseline of your current fitness level and provides necessary information to develop an individual specific general fitness program. Additionally these evaluations are conducted quarterly to measure progress and aid in revamping training programs.

What do Personal Training sessions include?

All sessions are based on customized exercises for the individual client. All sessions come complete with clear directions including, but not limited to, repetitions, sets and demonstrations. The sessions also include appropriate rest periods and suitable progressions that provide continual challenges to the client’s physical capabilities. Sessions will always conclude with adequate stretching to reduce soreness and improve flexibility. Last, but not least, is constant positive reinforcement of all efforts made by the client. Clients also have the option to take advantage of dietary consultations and meal plans. EA FITNESS is always available for guidance during sessions, via email, skype/face time andphone conversations.

Bootcamp

Exercise programs that incorporate mixed training methods including but not limited to calisthenics, plyometrics, isometric, strength training, stability, core strengthening, and cardiovascular training. Combining all of these different exercise types maximizes your workout time, works all of your muscles, keeps your heart rate up and eliminates exercise boredom. Our programs take place in four different settings parking decks, parks, exercise rooms, and neighborhood runs. Each location offers different challenges physically and mentally as all muscles will be worked in different ways, this affords opportunities for fitness knowledge growth. All bootcamps are eight weeks long and the routine changes every four weeks.

Fitness Evaluations

Assessment of an individual physical capabilities based on standard fitness tests. These tests typically include the following but may be modified as necessary:

Personal training evaluations

  • Wall squat
  • Sit to stand
  • Push ups
  • Sit ups
  • Flexibility
  • Body fat composition
    • Circumference with tape measure
    • Viner calipers
  • Measuring range of motion
  • Endurance

Functional training evaluations

  • Leg extension with manual resistance
  • Leg extension with manual resistance
  • Leg abduction with manual resistance
  • Leg adduction with manual resistance
  • Bicep curl with manual resistance
  • Triceps push down with manual resistance
  • Lateral arm lift with manual resistance
  • Measuring range of motion with goniometer
  • Measuring flexibility with goniometer
  • Gait evaluation
  • Balance evaluation
  • Hand strength
  • Endurance evaluation

The results from these evaluations are documented and used as a baseline for future success. Fitness evaluations are conducted quarterly and are compared against the previous evaluations results to determine success and necessary changes to the program. Additionally these evaluations are compared against national averages for the appropriate age and gender.

Program Development

Following a discussion with the individual(s) to determine their goals, fitness knowledge, available equipment, and any physical limitations an exercise program is crafted. This program includes step by step instructions inclusive of number of sets, repetitions/time, weights, rest periods, and progressions. EA FITNESS is available to demonstrate all of the exercises and can be contacted with any questions at a later date. These programs are typically good for 6-8 weeks then a new program needs to be created to continue to challenge an individual. This is also important to avoid muscle memory where your body simply goes through the motions. Program development can also include diet plans or recommendations to complement the exercise plan.

Educational Seminars

Mr. Allen has mastered the art of public speaking and enjoys providing helpful information while inspiring others. Educational seminars are often given to groups on various fitness related topics. Most often he speaks on the following topics:

  • Importance of exercise
  • Healthy eating and diet plaining
  • Stretching and range of motion
  • Fall prevention
  • Balance
  • The benefits of being physically active
  • Diseases and exercise
  • How to select a personal trainer
  • Developing healthy habits
  • Stress management
  • Practical approaches to workout with busy lives

Any of these topics can be selected or combined along with adding additional topics to suit the needs of the audience. Wellness Day

If your organization or group is in need of a jump start or team building consider a wellness day. Wellness day is a series of open discussion and demonstrations about the holistic approach to life. The holistic approach is taking an in depth look at all parts of an individual as the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. Our approach is directly in line with this way of thinking as our approach is to access individuals physical, medical, dietary and stress management practices to determine an individual’s needs for improved overall wellbeing. EA FITNESS works with several partners that come together to provide helpful information and activities related to wellness. Most often wellness day includes a series of talks on fitness (exercise and diet), massage therapy (relaxation and health benefits), and customized medicine (knowing what works for your body) along with demonstrations. Additional topics that can be added to wellness day include financial, legal, and spiritual wellness.
